In a column titled “Sony’s Big Steal”, Variety writer Peter Bart reveals not only that D-9 was the weekend box office winner, but at a recent packed Acadamy voter screening, the movie received a heck of a lot of applause from the folks that choose what movies will make it to the now-expanded Oscar Best Pic list. This kind of reaction from crochety Academy voters is relatively rare, and with the Best Pic list now super-sized to ten titles could D-9 find itself in a prominent position?
