I hate to be a hype-machine nay-sayer, because usually I am a hype-machine, but I think the only people who are anticipating Avatar are those that put money into it and then realized it wasn’t Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is now titled The Last Airbender to give way to James Cameron’s Avatar that now seems much less buzz-worthy. Just to keep you in the loop, we have two movies titled with the number 9 this fall. One is called Nine and one is called 9. So to be clear, Avatar: The Last Airbender lost his name, and now he is just The Last Airbender. We all know who he is, despite losing his name, but we have know idea who this new Avatar is, despite being told he is the most anticipated. And this will all be cleared up later today.

Once I saw an article that described Avatar as “Dances with Wolves in Space,” I lost most interest. I think the technological advances in the effects will lure me in, but I am not expecting much of a story.
I might like the movie better if it really was about the The Last Airbender… in space! Using his elemental martial arts to fight aliens! Aliens that used to live in a South African ghetto!

Did I mention it is in 3-D?
