Bubbles are rising to the surface less than 48 hours after the news of the Disney purchase of Marvel about Iron Man 2 now being in 3D. AICN’s Harry Knowles is claiming there is a one minute demo of Iron Man 2 in 3D. This wouldn’t bother me so much if he didn’t call it “HOT! Crazy Hot!”
The problem here is Harry Knowles loves 3D, and I (and I think a large faction of adult America) have little interest in putting on glasses and getting a headache every time I watch a movie.
What I have loved about movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight is that they are not just a roller coaster ride, but are a movie with character and depth. Sure, action and explosions are key, but can you imagine all the introspective and dialog scenes in 3D, too?
Let’s keep 3D to the G-Force and Final Destination franchises. We don’t want or need 3D X-Men or Iron Man (or Avatar, for that matter). If it takes gimmicks like 3D to make a movie worth watching, then I’ll see it at the Captain Eo theater at Disneyland. I hope I am not forced to wear those sticky glasses when I see Avatar later this year, and if I am I hope it is for the last time.
