The Telegraph is reporting that one group of scientists now believe that comics can be just as valuable for children’s reading development as other forms of reading. While many critics have long held that, due to their heavy graphical content, comics did not provide children with the same benefit as reading books. However new research from the University of Illinois suggests that comics can be just as good.

Professor Carol Tilley, said “Although they’ve long embraced picture books as appropriate children’s literature, many adults – even teachers and librarians who willingly add comics to their collections – are too quick to dismiss the suitability of comics as texts for young readers.”
So keep on reading those comics with the kids, bub.
