Hold back the tears, but after 17 years and 700 episodes there will be no more “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” to quench your thirst for bad monsters, bad martial arts, and craptacular explosions. I quit watching years ago…right about when Amy Jo Johnson, the original Pink Ranger, left the show. Go Go Power Rangers!

Bad martial arts? The cast were real martial artists (with the exception of Amy Jo Johnson and David Yost, who were elite gymnasts) who did all of their own stunts. The fight scenes are a lot better than what you see these days.

@angela: you are probably right…”bad” was a poor word choice. I think “over-choreographed” is closer to what I had in mind.

I thought the fight scenes were taken from a Japanese TV show…or was that just the first season or two?

I was under the impression that all the seasons “borrow” from whatever Sentai series they picked up from Japan. Most of the fighting in costume is directly from the Japanese material, but some action scenes were done that clearly showed the western actors. In case you would like to watch the originals…
Season One– based on “Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger”
Season Two– “Gosei Sentai Dairanger”
Season Three– “Ninja Sentai Kakuranger”
After that, I’d have to dig deeper into the pit of the internet…
