D&D On Microsoft Surface

February 11th, 2010

I haven’t played D&D since the early 80s (when it was cool, right?) but I could really see a resurgence with the interactive pieces and dice, etc. the Microsoft Surface and other similar interactive  tablets/tables might offer. This article describes one such interaction, and it is even more interesting that it is a student project and not an actually licensed product in development. I think we saw hints to this a few months ago, but this seems more together. Here is more information on the student developers.

Fourth Edition (4E) D&D is perfect for surface interfaces like this. The 4E game really requires the use of miniatures, and direction, movement and character spatial orientation really come into play during combat. Something like this could really help move a game along.
