Carl Macek may not be a name that you recognize immediately, but if you enjoyed Robotech, Akira, or Hayao Miyazaki movies like Lupin III or My Neighbor Totoro, then his is a name you should know. Sadly, Macek passed away this weekend at the age of 58. Chances are if you are an anime fan Macek helped introduce you to your addiction at a time when anime wasn’t even a word Americans understood and Japanese cinema was regarded as all samurai epics and monster movies. Sadly, Macek passed away this weekend at the age of 58. Rest in peace.
