Variety is reporting that James Franco has been chosen to star in the upcoming Planet of the Apes prequel titled Rise of the Apes. The new film, which will not be directed by Tim Burton, is set in modern day San Francisco (hey, Milk, anyone?) and is, about, well you guessed it. They will also be using Avatar like “photo-realistic” CGI instead of costumes for the apes. Yipes! There wasn’t much photo-realistic about the Na’vi in Avatar, they just looked good in a 100% CGI world. However this movie is set in very photo-realistic modern urban USA. How are these apes going to compare? We will find out next June when Rise of the Apes is released.
