Time Warner let the cat out of the bag last week at an investor meeting:  a new animated series starring Green Lantern is coming to the Cartoon Network.  There is no official release date yet for the animated series, but we do know that the upcoming movie is set for a June 17, 2011 release.

Green Lantern, at least to me, had always been a second tier hero in the DC lineup.  He was a supporting cast member in the old “Superfriends” cartoons.  Until last year, one his most memorable comic books was a team-up series with Green Arrow.  Apparently it is time for the defender of Sector 2814 to step up to the plate and prove once and for all that he is worthy of “top dog” status.  ”Blackest Night” has been a big hit (even though I’m still trying to keep track of all the dang ring colors), and the Ryan Reynolds movie has promise.
