If you’ve been paying attention to tech or comics in the last six months you are probably familiar with the Marvel comics app on the iPad. This comic reader for apple’s tablet has made a splash in a lot of media outlets due to its fancy “guided view” as well as its on-line store for digital comics. But fewer people know that the Marvel app is actually the same tech as Comixology, which also sells comics from publishers such as Top Cow and Image, and just recently added Marvel.

They apparently are still working on getting publishers to allow them to show purchased comics in the web browser. I’m sure that must be coming, and once it does, and if they can get DC on board, then this might just be the end-all and be-all of digital comics. If they can work out one place to buy comics from the major publishers, and display those comics on both mobile devices and the web? This could become iTunes for digital comics. Then we would just need to worry about what they are going to do for Android.
