Xbox seems to be doing everything they can to get people to try XBL Gold. If you go TODAY to XBL you can have a free weekend. I also have an offer for a month for a dollar in my inbox. The main reason I like XBL is it has the best Netflix interface. However, it is the one pay service in a sea of free. How long will it be that way?

It won’t be that way for long, but probably not the way you would like. The PSN is going to start a for pay service soon – possibly with details coming at e3. I suspect this will be the last gen of console with “free” online gameplay. enjoy it while it lasts.
Having said all that, I totally think XBox live gold is worth it. I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $35 for it (shop around!) and for all it gives you, I think it is worth it. I know that my co-worker with a PS3 complains about matchmaking and the like with the PSN all the time. Since I don’t have one, I can’t say, but I’m happy with XBL
