Comics fans who are awaiting the big-screen debut of “The Avengers” are in a bit of a tizzy these days. Last week, Marvel let it be known that the services of Ed Norton would no longer be necessary– they claimed a need for a “team player” in the role. Currently, actor Mark Ruffalo’s name is being tossed around as a possible Bruce Banner. You can read all about this mess here.
But I want to suggest another alternative… our very own Sci-Guy-Jim could play the Bruce Banner / Hulk character!
If you read our posts, you know that Sci-Guy-Jim was in Washington, D.C. last week for a “conference.” I think he was actually there auditioning for the role of the Hulk. Notice how there just happens to be an earthquake while he is there? That’s no earthquake… it’s what happens when Sci-Guy-Jim gets angry. You wouldn’t like him when he is angry.
Of all the Sci-Guys, Jim probably has the best Hulk credentials. I recall lengthy Hulk discussions with him back in the Peter David days of “Incredible Hulk” comics, so Sci-Guy-Jim is already up to speed on all the subtle nuances of the green goliath. I’m sure that Mark Ruffalo will do a nice job if he is eventually cast in the role… but don’t count out Sci-Guy-Jim!

I’d probably do better as The Abomination.

Is there any truth to the rumour that Sci-Bot-9000 will play Vision?
An awful lot could go wrong with this – Iron Man 2 did good numbers, but I think the general reaction was “underwhelmed”. Thor and Captain America are unknown quantities at this stage (though Captain America is probably a solid bet to be pretty popular) so what if they underperform? And they’re recasting Banner again? That’s not a big deal in of itself, but to me it demonstrates a degree of short-sightedness from Marvel – I’m sure both Ruffalo and Sci-Guy-Jim were both available last time and is Norton really a bigger name than either of them? Well okay, maybe he’s a bigger name than Ruffalo.
