I’ll be in line to see it… I’m sure my daughter will be begging to go, and I must admit that I enjoy the films.

do I need to turn in my Sci-Guy membership if I say I don’t “get” Harry Potter?

I mean I understand that it is good for kids, but everyone just loves it. I haven’t seen the last movie yet, but I’ve seen the rest, and I just don’t get the appeal.

I will probably go see these final two movies though.

I am out of the Harry Potter loop. I’ve never seen any of the movies, not for lack of desire, but for lack of desire, I guess.

Ok, then I guess I won’t be suggesting “Dobby the House-Elf versus Sauron” for our next Versus segment…

…not that anybody likes any of my ideas anyway…

    That’s a really terrific trailer.

I’m not a big fan, but they’re largely enjoyable – I’m not convinced that the films stand whe separated from the books (which I’ve not read). There are ideas within those films, but they’re not terribly well fleshed out; so I can only assume the depth is from the books. I think if I was younger I’d have been more into them.

As for the films as a series, I think the first two skew very young and are, at best, tolerable. The third and fourth are pretty strong (I’ll go against the grain and say the fourth is the best). The last two are admirably more grown up but do seem to contain an awful lot of filler (the last one in particular, is very dull for much of its running time).

As a production/technical achievement though, I think the sheer scale (and particularly overcoming such challenges as the child actors’ aging) of this series is hugely impressive – 8 films over nearly a decade. That pompous ‘movie event of the generation’ line from the first trailer doesn’t seem quite so hyperbolic when you look at it in those terms. We’ll not see anything like this for quite some time, if ever.

It is a good looking trailer, and it is interesting watching the actors, and the story “grow up”.
