Sci-Guys Podcast 038

September 28th, 2010

You remember that time that the Sci-Guys talked about the new fall TV shows? You know, when they talked about “The Event” and “Fringe”? That time they talked about the Portland’s Retro Gaming Expo, and Seven Billion Needles in the Manga Minute? Yeah, that was AWESOME!

Here is the link about Banned Book Week. Just to be clear, the American Library Association is not celebrating the banning of books, but is bringing attention to the situation that still exists in the US and across the world.

So, Jim, I don’t think I am going to make it to the book burning you have planned for Friday.

If anybody in Portland really does want to burn a book, I suggest going to the Memorial Coliseum on October 16th at 8:30pm. “Baron Von Goolo” from the haunted house “FrightTown” will be hosting a book burning… of the Stefenie Meyer “Twilight” saga!

Baron Von Goolo describes these teen-fave vampire books as a “brooding, emo, Tiger Beat sparkle thing…”

Check out Willamette Week for details…

Has Sci-Guy-Mike been abducted by a relation from an alternate universe?

I’ve been catching up on Fringe, and have this list (courtesy of a review from The AV Club) of suggested episodes to watch:

From Season One: “The Arrival,” “In Which We Meet Mr. Jones,” “The Equation,” “Safe,” “Bound,” “Ability,” “Bad Dreams,” “The Road Not Taken” and “There‚Äôs More Than One Of Everything.”

From Season Two: “A New Day In The Old Town,” “Momentum Deferred,” “August,” “Snakehead,” “Grey Matters,” “Jacksonville,” “Peter,” “Olivia. In The Lab. With The Revolver,” “White Tulip,” “The Man From The Other Side” and “Over There.”

I’m not quite into this show as much as I feel like I should be. Maybe it’s because I know a little too much ahead of time and that’s robbing it of some power, but the last batch of episodes I’ve watched have been really strong.

If they stick to the normal writing pattern, we will have a couple of alternate-world centered stories in a row and then get to some one-off “creature or goofy science issue of the week” stories. This season should be fun… I’m looking forward to seeing how each of the Olivias adapt to their current world.

I still think John Noble deserves an Emmy for his performance as Walter.
