I don’t think any of the Sci-Guys will feel too badly about this news (since we absolutely trashed the SyFy series “Caprica” in podcast #41), but it has been officially announced that “Caprica” has been cancelled. And when I say cancelled, I mean “we aren’t even going to show the rest of the finished episodes until next year” cancelled.
According the the Twitter feeds and official site, SyFy has pulled “Caprica” from the lineup, effective immediately, and will show the remaining five Season 2 episodes sometime next year. Ouch. If they really hurry, maybe they can just release them on DVD in time for Christmas?
I wonder what, if any, impact this will have on the recently revealed plan to create another BSG series set between “Caprica” and “BSG”? My guess– the new series won’t have religious terrorists, avatars, or New Cap City in it at all.

OK, I just realized that “Caprica” has managed to leave us hanging until next year… for them to reveal the “final five” (episodes).
All this has happened before, and all this will happen again.

Well played, Mike, well played.
I haven’t watched Caprica, so I can’t make any qualitative comments on the cancellation, but it’s a little worrying that they’ve actually pulled this rather than just letting the episodes run. It’s a tactic more common with the broadcast networks and ultimately just ends up with viewer dissatisfaction.
SyFy have got a problem — and it’s not just their terrible name — in that they’re struggling to forge their own identity. Their more ambitious dramas like SGU and Caprica (and you can argue about the execution, but this is the area I really believe they should be aiming) simply aren’t as financially viable as their Sharktopus style B-movies. So they’re torn between two masters.

Don’t forget their twilight-audience-aspiring romance/dramedies like Warehouse 13, Haven, and (I can only assume) Eureka.

Those shows are ‘of a type’ at least, and although they’re not must-see TV from my own point of view, they’ve got a helluva lot more value than Sharktopus or wrestling.

Martin, I think you are spot-on about the two masters… everything they produce (and I like) rarely makes them any money, so we are stuck with sharktopus. A sharktopus that wrestles other odd creatures.
