Way back in Marvel’s Strage Tales #159, comics readers learned that agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division) had access to specially modified cars that could fly. As you can see in the photo to the right, the first S.H.I.E.L.D. flying cars looked like modified Porches.
Fast forward to 2011… S.H.I.E.L.D. now stands for something a little different (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement Logistics Division). Rather than fighting Hydra, they are in charge of putting together a team of superheroes– The Avengers. The Porches are a thing of the past, too. Turns out the modern S.H.I.E.L.D. uses Acuras as its primary means of transportation. I guess this means S.H.I.E.L.D. is a truly multinational organization, since every agency backed by the U.S. Government seems to drive nothing but domestic vehicles from Ford or GM.
Acura is an official sponsor of the upcoming Thor movie. If you would like to learn more about the official cars of S.H.I.E.L.D., click through here and become an official Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.!
I don’t know… I guess I’ve been brainwashed by enough movies to believe that all secret government agencies should be driving giant black Chevy Tahoes or Ford Excursions. This photo from the Thor set just seems a little goofy… a bunch of Acuras in the middle of the desert?
Those Acuras better turn into flying cars, or I’m going to be very, very disappointed.
