Hey, Sci-Guys. Thank you SO MUCH for being this generous with your show’s time. Of course, I can hear 100 things I wish I’d said differently during our interview, including answering Sci-Guy John’s question about *how* one goes about self-publishing an ebook. I should have started off with a simple answer: You take your ebook file, usually saved as a Word (DOC) or HTML document, and upload it to the conversion engines at Amazon’s KDP Select, Smashwords’s Meatgrinder, or B&N’s PubIt! systems. (I use Amazon and Smashwords.) Then you upload whatever cover image you have. Add in your book title, description, and a few other quick facts. A few minutes to a few hours later — voila! Your ebook is published and available for anyone to purchase. It’s literally no harder than posting something to Facebook. Of course, if you care about how your product looks, you’ll also put in hours on formatting, pay for a professional cover, and so on. But the basic mechanics of e-publishing are ridiculously easy. In comparison, publication through a traditional paper publisher can take up to two years.
And not that anyone cares, but my kids are 7 and 10, not 7 and 8. Can you tell I was nervous? ;-)

Jim – moderator, hates reality TV, Brony fan
Scott – Lowest voice, reads a ton
Mike – ??? the guy who talks the least?? Brick House??
John – Manga Minute?, recovering Everquest addict
I have a bad feeling I’m mixing up Mike and John and making one person out of them. I’ve been poking at the site. Does it say anywhere who does what segment? Thanks, guys! Good episode!
