Sci-Guys Podcast 119

April 2nd, 2013

We’ve got a full plate this time. “The Walking Dead” wraps for the year just as “Game Of Thrones” picks back up. “Doctor Who” returns, and brings along “Orphan Black”. Oh, and “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” but never mind that. ALSO “Short Shorts”!

G.I. Joe – Honestly, the first movie was directed by the same man who made “The Mummy” and “Van Helsing”, and it had the same sense of fun and honor for the source material as his first movies did. I enjoyed the first Joe movie as the action candy floss that it was. The fact that the producers ignored or cut almost everything from the first movie is what will continue to keep me away, even for free, chopped up on something like TBS.

I agree, at some point Game of Thrones is going to have to cut bait and wrap it up, and I imagine it will be sooner, rather than later. But the reason I suspect this is because of actor drift, which you mentioned, and the cost of a season, which is north of 10 million right now. Costs will only go up, too. So, one ratings dip and that will be the end of GoT for HBO.

Orphan Black – Yet Another BBC Humorless Show. The BBC keeps putting out these dramas with interesting premises, but they’re so dark and ugly that the plots swerve into boring. A Smexy Scene doesn’t make up for the horribleness of the characters. There’s no one here to like!

The first episode of Dr Who had an awfully cutsie end…. I think that girl is distracting to the Doctor, the show staff and fan-people.

I finally found you on Itunes and rated you! Whoo! Thanks for the great episode!

    love, lore

I’m starting to think that Dr. Who can’t end an episode with a “Cutsie Clara” moment!

    Thanks for the rating!

Thanks, Mike! I’ll be interested to hear what you all think of Dr Who now that it’s 3 episodes in. We found the submarine episode to be deadly dull.

The Significant Other seems to like Orphan Black, but 3 episodes in, I still want all of the clones to die. The brother is the only character worth admiring.

I’ll say this about GoT: The episodes certainly go by quicker now that we spend about 5 minutes on each character. I’m always saying “is that it?” when the credits roll. Not sure this is a good thing.

Hope there’s a new episode this week – I have to be at work late almost every day. ~_^ Have a good one!
