I need help, i am a big comic book movie fan but my love for DC and my need to champion the underdog has me wanting Marvel to fall on its face with every new release. Obviously this is bad attitude to have but i just cant shake it. Any got any info or idea on how to feel better about Marvel’s/Disney’s sucess
the fanboi in you will be your destruction Gramo! It is totally OK to root for DC movies to be good. But it isn’t a competition.
Marvel’s success isn’t DC’s failure. As a matter of fact, if Marvel movies like X-Men and Spiderman hadn’t been hits, we never would have gotten the Nolan Batman movies. A rising tide floats all boats. think of it that way.
Gotham – Prequels are tiring because they make you wait and hope for the thing you really want, which is the current continuity of what the prequel is to. We like Batman, we want to get to Batman – but we’re never going to get there if this prequel series is a success. Also, prequels usually grate because you know who can and can’t die. Almost none of the characters involved in Gotham can die because we know they survive to adult Batman’s time. RIP Jada Pinkett-Smith’s character. For the rest, there’s no real suspense that can be created for them. They might get arrested or disappear, but eventually, we know they come back for Batman. So. Meh.
Agents of Shield – Hydra infiltrating SHIELD so deeply for so long has left loyalties and trust in tatters. The character you don’t think should come back absolutely should come back and be in the other characters’ faces to help mine the emotional fallout of his betrayal and Hydra’s. Also, this was no tiny character – he was the second male lead. He can’t just be arrested and disappear from the show. You want to see a guy like that punished or redeemed. Personally, I’m over the idea of his redemption – I want to see a messy death; not just hear about it.
Outlander will be on Starz. It’s based on a series of books written by a romance novelist. The series is HUGE with women, who have been waiting for a screen adaption for many, many years. Personally, ick. The novelist also is one of those “don’t write fan fic of my characters” kind of authors. So, double ick. It won’t be me reporting in. ~_^
Angela was created for Spawn to begin with – McFarlane had asked 3 creators to make characters to be used in Spawn, and the creators were supposed to retain the characters’ copyrights. Remember, this is back when Image was the big “creators rights first” imprint and the appearances were supposed to be one-shots. Readers never got over the issue with Angela, and McFarlane eventually used Angela in Spawn again. Gaiman sued and eventually won. BTW, Gaiman roams between DC and Marvel pretty freely because his fanbase is outside of comics and they will follow wherever he goes, so neither company tries to tie him down these days.
I love Shazam. He was a great alternative to boring, old Superman. Same powers, but with distinct weaknesses.
I love the Manga minute. It doesn’t seem fair that you voted while John was out of the country. And I agree with the Facebooker who wants the MM theme song as a ringtone! Post it, post it! (please)
Very true Jim. I can only agree 100% with your comment but it tough to get into that way of thinking and not seeing Marvel & DC as in competition when at every turn friends, news reports and even the film studios themsleves turn every bit of news into a new development in the Mavel Vs DC War. DoJ’s change of date for example is reported as ‘DC loosing the game of release date chicken with the mighty Marvel Studios/Disney’. I really want The DCCU to be great, this doesnt mean i want Marvel to fail but, & i know this is wrong but, i really want DoJ to give the Avengers a bloody noes in the box office.
In my head i know that Marvels success has pathed the way for DC and without their incredible (& well deserved) success We would not have DCCU. Its like, I know Alien only really got made because Star Wars hit it big but That doesnt ive me any love for Star Wars. I am xenomorph to the bone.
I know i probibly sound petty or even like one of the evil evil fan boy haters that seem hell bent on reporting every movie sucks 3 weeks before its released but i just want Supes & Batman back where they belong as kings of the Box Office.
Just a closing thought. I think its Disney. I dont like that Disney owns too many IPs. It feels like they are stacking the deck. They have the rights to everything, they have bought the most talent artists available, they have more money than god and people are surpised they now make good movies. I cant think of a really good Disney movie in the 10 years before they bought Pixar, Lucas & Marvel. Its winning the race becuase you bought the fastes car, it just doesnt seem fair, but at least we are getting some great movies from it all.
